BRIEF DISCRIPTION OF THE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF
OUR DANCE TEACHING PROGRAMME
Level 1 - These are the
lowest level of difficulty and is therefore ideal for beginners.
THE SOCIAL FOXTROT
The very epitome of sophistication, the Foxtrot is smooth, subtle and
oh so stylish.
CHA CHA CHA
Perennially popular, the Cha Cha Cha from Cuba is a great dance to show
off with on the dance floor.
THE BASIC WALTZ
Glide into your partner's arms and float across the dance floor to the
Waltz. Could anything be more romantic?
THE RUMBA
Similar to the Cha Cha Cha though slower and more sensual, the Rumba is
often called the dance of love.
Level 2 - These dances are slightly
more challenging in terms of speed and choreography.
THE SAMBA
Originating in Brazil, the Samba is hot, sexy and saucy. It calls for a
certain 'bounce' so it can also be quite challenging!
THE TANGO
Possibly the most challenging but potentially, the most rewarding dance
of all. You know when you've been Tango'd .
JIVE
It's fast and its fun - though we'll take it slow to begin with. Clear
the centre of the dance floor - jive bunnies coming through!
the five main latin dances »
Cha Cha Cha
Is the younger cousin of the Rumba. They share similar step
patterns, but the mood could not be more different. The Cha Cha is a
fun light hearted dance in which the couple are expressing their
delight in each others company. The woman wiggles against the man &
there’s lots of hip action.
There’s some debate about the origin of the name , some say
it’s Haitian word for a bell like musical instrument , others that it
represents the sound of the dancers sandals slapping against the floor
when danced in the little back street Cuban bars.
Samba
The Samba originated in Brazil and is the party dance of Rio.
It is still danced extensively in Brazil, although the Samba that is
danced in the Ballrooms and International competitions around the world
is a far cry from the party dance of Brazil. The Samba is one of the
few progressive Latin dances. The music is lively and fun and the dance
is often a popular choice amongst social dancers. Energetic and fun to
learn to dance.
Rumba
The Cuban Rumba is the dance of romance; it is a story of
seduction between a man & a woman. They flirt then there's
attraction. The woman then tries to get away, but the man pulls her
back. The age old story of woman's attempt to control man by use of her
feminine charms...Its origins are ancient, going back to African ritual
dances that were transported to the New World by the slave trade.
Paso Doble
The Paso Doble is the dance of the Spanish bullfighter. It
symbolises the battle between man and beast and portrays the man in a
very macho image. The woman portrays the flowing action of the cape as
the man does battle with the bull. The music is distinctly Spanish in
its origin and there is a definite flamenco style to the Paso Doble.
Although fun to dance the Paso Double has limited use as a social dance.
Jive / Rock 'n' Roll'
The Ballroom' Jive is one of the five dances in the
International Latin American competitions. The Jive that most people
think of, the one that is danced at family parties and weddings is
generally Rock 'n' Roll Jive. Danced to great, well-known tunes from
the likes of Bill Halley and Elvis Presley the Jive is still enjoyed by
thousands of people worldwide. Jive has always been a dance of the
times. As musical tastes have changed, so has the style of the dance
while retaining its inherent structure and its universal appeal.
Whatever your musical tastes, there is a style of Jive of suit you from
the Lindy Hop of the 20's, through the Jitterbug and Boogie Woogie of
the 30's, the Swing of the 40's, to the Rock 'n' Roll of the 50's and
60's.
the ballroom dances»
Waltz
The world reknown Waltz captures romance and marks special
occasions for dancers everywhere. Originally an 18th century Austrian
folk-dance, the Waltz is one of the five dances of International
Ballroom competitions. The dance is called the 'slow' or 'English'
Waltz in countries where the Viennese Waltz is known as the Waltz.
Quick Step
The first dancers to take the Foxtrot to a faster tempo
introduced the Quickstep. There are echoes of Charleston in the
Quickstep with the dance's nimble hops and kicks, making it a lively
and energetic expedition to the dancefloor. The Quickstep is one of the
five international ballroom competition dances.
Foxtrot
The Foxtrot is a slow and graceful dance rooted in the Tin
Pan Ally of the 1920s. The dance's elegant and beautiful movements make
the Foxtrot a challenging dance for ballroom dancers to master. The
Foxtrot features in the five International Ballroom competition dances.
Tango
The Ballroom Tango is one of the five dances belonging to the
International Ballroom Competitions. Many see it as the austere
European relative of the raw and compelling Tango Argentino.

Argentine Tango
Argentine Tango was born in Buenos Aires and is a raw and
authentic dance which, like many Latin dances, explores and tests the
relationship between man and woman. In Tango the man and woman are
equal and with the movements weaving contact and separation, the dance
suggests that either partner may be seduced. In Europe, we have
translated the original Argentine Tango into the Ballroom Tango.
